Hiva Alizadeh ( born in Kerman-IRAN in 1989 and currently Living Teheran) takes inspiration from the Persian tradition of weaving Kerman carpets. The tapestries woven by Alizadeh are created using synthetic hair extensions, that the artist composes in vibrant colorful palettes. The Eastern and the Western tradition meet in Alizadeh’s work, which embodies a complex agglomerate of forms colors and meanings. The artist continues “The flexibility and resilience of ‘hair’, inspired by carpet fibers, in my works touch on the incessant hardships and sufferings in the world; a world where humans have no alternative but fantasizing and being flexible. In my personal endeavors, I'm in a quest for finding a way to fathoming and utilizing the traditional elements of my culture in the contemporary abstract art: Persian carpet, the most exquisite Iranian artistic phenomenon alongside literature and traditional music, uncovers the paramount fundamentals of culture and noble existence in Iran. Moving closer, they emerge as tresses of brightly colored synthetic hair, streaming down the wall like rivulets of oily paint. Indeed, I liken the texture of my compositions of hair to the freshly painted brushstrokes and considers these pieces more akin to painting than to sculpture. I love the pliancy of locks and their movement with each breath of air. It’s like my works would constantly summoning to be touched, fondled and brushed, like they would ask someone should take care of them. As such, they stand symbol for my intent of forging a dialogue, an intimate connection, between the viewer and each work of art and between traditional and contemporary artistic vernaculars.”
